As a service-provider, this process offers us a high level of process certainty and flexibility. It\u2019s a major competitive advantage compared with conventional hardening processes.<br \/>\nThe advantages of this type of heat treatment enable us at Vogt to produce customer-specific series products as well as prototypes quickly and economically. The additional advantages of the end-product, such as minimising the hardness distortion and the best-possible robustness with a high level of hardness, provide a broad spectrum of application options.<\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;18px&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5><strong>The process of austempering can be found for example in:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;18px&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5>Seatbelt coverings<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h5>Anti-friction bearing components<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h5>Engines and gear parts, axles, drive shafts<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h5>Components in heavy-duty fuel injection pumps<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;grid&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221; z_index=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5>The area of application generally includes components, which are made from a sheet of metal or a band with a small cross-section. Austempering is above all ideal for thin-cut components made of carbon steel because extraordinary weight-bearing capacity is required here. However: Not all components are suitable for hardening by austempering.<\/h5>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;72px&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5>The advantages and positive features can be achieved only if no other structures are created during cooling, e.g. ferrite, perlite, upper bainite. There is therefore a range of components, which are typically used for this version of hardening.<\/h5>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221; row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; use_row_as_full_screen_section=&#8221;no&#8221; type=&#8221;grid&#8221; angled_section=&#8221;no&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; background_image_as_pattern=&#8221;without_pattern&#8221; background_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1516628600856{padding-top: 72px !important;padding-right: 48px !important;padding-bottom: 72px !important;padding-left: 48px !important;background-color: #ffffff !important;}&#8221; z_index=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1509093573184{margin-top: -46px !important;border-right-width: 1px !important;padding-top: 48px !important;padding-bottom: 36px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Hardening in a salt bath<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;36px&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>While the increase in hardness is achieved through martensite formation with normal hardening, with austempering it is an isothermal micro-structural transformation in the bainite stage, which occurs at a fixed temperature.<br \/>\nThe component is first austenitised, this means heat treatment takes place at temperatures of 800 \u2013 1,050\u00b0C regardless of the material. This process also occurs with conventional hardening. However, the subsequent quenching process is then captured in the austenitisation temperature, in other words above the martensite formation temperature. In general a salt bath with a temperature of approx. 300 \u2013 400\u00b0C is selected for this.<\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;18px&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Brief summary of the process:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;18px&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h5>Heating-up to the austenitising temperature<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h5>Maintaining the temperature<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h5>Quenching in the warm salt bath<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h5>Maintaining in the warm bath until the micro-structural transformation has been completed<\/h5>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;36px&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Bainite structures will occur as the end-product of this process. New options and opportunities have occurred over the last decade, above all through continuous digitalisation. With newly developed sensors, it is now possible to continually monitor and regulate the hardening process during austempering and as a result be able to end austempering with the utmost precision.<\/h5>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h5>The enormous advantage of this new technology: Fluctuations in materials and those caused by transformation can be identified immediately and corrected accordingly.
